Artist Aiding Others is a vehicle for creative advocacy that I direct through the non-profit organization, Lightwork Recovery. Through AAO talented artists
and art lovers empower those in need through contribution and
creativity. There are lots of ways to get involved. Our annual Home Safe Home project is outlined below. If you are an artist or collector
of original artwork, or if you just want to contribute to a much needed
cause, see the details below....and please pass this link on to everyone
you know.
Home Safe Home - An Artful Living Project
Aiding families caught in the cycle of
domestic abuse through education and refuge.
Home
is often referred to as a safe haven, our port in the storms of life.
Unfortunately this is not true for families caught in the cycle of
domestic abuse. Through my work with Lightwork Recovery, a non profit
educational organization, I have developed a series of Artful Living
programs to raise awareness for those desiring to make positive changes
in their lives. HOME SAFE HOME is aimed at advocating for the families
of domestic abuse through educational, refuge and fundraising programs.
Below are ways you can you can get involved.
1.) Purchase this art-print - Created
from four of my original art-quilts, I designed this print specifically
for contributors to the Home Safe Home project. All profits from the
purchase of this colorful art-print go to support programs dedicated to
ending domestic abuse through education, fundraising and refuge.
Contributors of $25.00 or more will receive this 12x18" art-print to
proudly show their support of this Artful Living Project. Contributions
can be mailed to the address at the bottom of the page. Please enclose
contact information so your print can be mailed to you.
Call For Artwork
The 'Home Safe Home' program is designed to assist those caught in the cycle of domestic abuse. Most often these are women and children without resources to change their situation. We are asking artists and guilds to put their creativity to use and join us in reclaiming the home as safe space "one square foot at a time".
Because houses are measured in square footage, we are asking quilt artists along with artists of all mediums to create and contribute a 12x12 inch work of art depicting house imagery.
An ongoing program, your artwork will be exhibited at our annual Artful Living art shows and sold to raise funds for education, refuge and empowerment programs. Purchasers can then choose to keep or donate the artwork back to our organization to be given to a survivor of domestic abuse for her now Home Safe Home. In this she will be embraced by the love and support of others each time she sees your expression of artful living. This is no small thing for those coming out of domestic abuse. Often the reminder that they are not alone is what helps them grow in self esteem and pass this on to their children.
All artists will be individually recognized for their contributions. If you are interested in helping us help others, send an e-mail with "Living Artfully" in the subject line to programs@artistsaidingothers.org. We'll add your organization to our list of contributors and anxiously await your generous contributions.
Please provide contact information including your name and e-mail address when mailing your artwork so we can share the results of our shows with you. Also, include a signed artist statement with each donation so we can display it and properly credit you as the artist.
About the size-
Because houses are measured in square footage we ask that each piece of
art donated to the Home Safe Home project be kept to one 'square foot'
in size. In displaying the artwork in this way at our annual show we creatively claim safe
space inside all homes.... one square foot at a time!
